Survey "Video Republic"

The british ThinkTank "Demos" (www.demos.co.uk) published the current survey "Video Republic" which contains extensive research with experts and young people in the UK, Turkey, Germany, Romania and Finland.

More and more children and young people use video cameras to publish their clips on internet portals and blogs or create own podcasts. New types of expressive inequality are emerging in Europe as many are held back from participating by poor access and a lack of resources. Most of the young users express themselves an communicate with others in these virtual spaces than to adress the political and cultural institutions directly with their requests.

Furthermore the young people are confused about regulations, copyright and privacy - so they get a lot of uncertain new relationships online. So it´s very important to support them and to encourage their enthusiasm and their abilities.

With recommendations for government, media and the private sector, this survey outlines how they can channel the creativity which is locked inside the 'Video Republic'.
