JIM Study: survey about the handling of new media by youths
The JIM-Study is an annual representative survey, informing about the recent development of the media habits of young people aged between 12 and 19 in Germany. The study provides information about equipment, handling new media in leisure time, importance of TV, radio, computer, Internet and mobile phones.
Dealing with the online world provides a variety of opportunities, but implies also threats; media literacy is therefore a key skill. The JIM-Study investigates also the problematical aspects of the media use, f.e. personal data, exchange of pornographic or violent content and online behaviour in social community platforms. This year, a special focus was put on the device, a young person uses for online activities as well as the use of online communities.
