ChatCheck badge launched in Denmark

A ChatCheck badge was launched in Denmark to mark Danish chat communities as "safe" for children and young persons.

The ChatCheck badge may be used by online communities that comply with a code of conduct consisting of a number of guidelines for service providers. These include:
  • provide a 24 hour technical chat surveillance
  • store and save chat messages, images and profile information for up to one year
  • make a 'reporting button”available for young people to report other users in case of suspected criminal or unethical behaviour
  • offer a 'black-listing” function so that young users can block unwanted communication from other users
The ChatCheck system is a result of the co-operation between stakeholders of the Internet industry and organisations like The Media Council for Children and Young People and Save the Children Denmark. The ChatCheck codex is directed at providers of chat services and communities for children and young people under 18 years of age.
Further information about the Code of Conduct in danish language to be found here.
