Giovanni Buttarelli, secretary general of the Italian Data Protection Authority stated his concerns about privacy-related risks arising from searching on the Internet via mobile phone, which are higher compared to traditional computer-based inquiries.
Mainly privacy concerns come up from social networking websites and search advertising. Especially ads are based on user profiles collected by search engine operators by putting together personal information such as inquiry histories, geographical locations and IP addresses. According to Buttarelli, the usage of a search engine on a mobile phone can provide a larger amount of personal data, allowing for easier identification and location of a user.
