A new Internet watchdog has been launched to support the protection of children by facing "harmful" web content, such as cyber-bullying and violent video games. The UK Council for Child Internet Safety (UKCCIS) ally social networking sites and technology firms. The aim is to teach children about web dangers, to target harmful content and establish a code of conduct for sites featuring material uploaded by users. The prime minister Gordon Brown said the growing importance of the Internet in young people's lives meant a task for government and society to gain a balance between online safety and freedom on the web.
