According to an article written by John D. Sutter, CNN, Facebook, the popular social networking site, has become the family's No. 1 way to communicate.

Many of these older people use social networks to keep an eye on younger family members and often find fruitful connections with their peers after they have made friends of their children and grandchildren, according to an informal survey by Stanford University professor BJ Fogg.
