A three days meeting was held from April 27 - to 29, 2009 in Remscheid, Germany focussed on the loss of privacy for young people in social communities. The seminar was organised by the German organisations IJAB - Fachstelle für Internationale Jugendarbeit in co-operation with the GMK - Gesellschaft für Medienpädagogik und Kommunikationskultur in the framework of the initiative 'Jugend online'. About 90 participants mainly social youth workers from the field listened to several experts exemplifying recent findings regarding young peoples' online behaviour. Several approaches to youth protection online where presented amongst these also the YPRT Toolkit.
Together the participants developed a common strategy to make children and youth aware of their privacy rights and the risks possibly occurring from deliberately or unintentionally revealing private information within their profiles. This strategy shall be implemented in German youth work within the months to come.
