According to China's state news agency Xinhua, President Hu Jintao emphasized the necessity to better regulate the rapidly developing Internet services in China and to promote a
healthy online culture. In his speech, held to the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on the 24th January 2007, he said, that being able to cope with the Internet,
affects the development of socialist culture, the security of information and the stability of the state.
The President said that the Internet should be used as a platform to spread healthy information, information that is
in good taste and online products, that can represent the
grand Chinese culture. He asked the government officials to improve the administration of web technologies, content and network security and to enhance their knowledge and ability to administer the Internet.
Xinhua points out, that the Chinese Internet population increased by 24 percent through the last year and reached 137 million people. The number of Chinese bloggers reached 20.8 million at the End of 2006 - about 15 Percent of them are regarded to be active authors. The news agency points out, that the government is thinking about better supervising the bloggers by requiring real-name blogs, because of problems with blog piracy, infringement and 'irresponsible' publications.
In China Blogs have become an area difficult to control and therefore in conflict with the government's intention to monitor the information spread over the Internet.
