On the occasion of the five-year anniversary of the German ‘Kommission für Jugendmedienschutz (KJM)’, which is on duty about the adherence of the German Legal Framework for electronic media regarding youth protection for broadcasting and internet services, Bavarian Prime Minister Dr. Günther Beckstein acknowledged their impact and importance. Beckstein stated that the common efforts of government and industry have been successful. Instruments and organisations of regulated self-regulation have been proved as the right way, but nevertheless, Beckstein declared the internationalisation of youth protection in the new media as a big challenge for the future. At the same time, he requested from the industry to distinguish oneself with youth protection and not to handle the topic as an annoying obligation.
The chairman of the KJM Prof. Dr. Wolf-Dieter Ring required from internationally active companies as well as from the German political system to transfer the German system of youth protection to other countries. The Internet is not to be controlled gapless, but international standards for your protection should be established.
