BERLIN - The Minister of the Interior of Lower Saxony, Uwe Schuenemann, has formed an alliance with numerous social groups to fight child pornography. Schuenemann and global IT enterprises, IT business associations, victim protection groups, representatives of the doctors’ community and scholars undersigned the alliance against child pornography 'White IT”. The partners committed themselves to fight child pornography at all levels - by self-control, technical solutions, prevention and legal measures. 'Fighting child pornography on the Internet is not yet effective. There are still children who are heavily abused to produce pornographic material,' Minister Schuenemann said. 'The aim of our alliance is to develop a comprehensive strategy for fighting child pornography including existing measures of state, business and science. This concerns prevention, penal action, and help for the victims as well as the development of technical, legal and political instruments.”
As the first concrete measure Schuenemann mentioned a criminological study on the subject of child pornography, which will be prepared by the criminological institute of the Leibniz University of Hannover. This study is financed by the Software AG, Fujitsu Technology Solutions GmbH, and the IT sector association BITKOM. Its objective is to research origin, distribution and handling of child pornographic material. The head of the Institute, Prof. Dr. Bernd-Dieter Meier, will present first results at the CeBIT 2010. Moreover, several IT enterprises will supply law enforcement authorities with current information by know-how transfer in order to bring their technology up-to-date. Publicity is planned to inform a broad public of the Internet complaint agency INHOPE, so that it can also be used as recipient of complaints on child pornographic contents. When the White IT agreement was signed, also the new website www.WhiteIT.de was launched, where, besides the Memorandum of Understanding, a lot of valuable information can be found.
